This course is intended to be a tool to assist domestic violence service providers offering victim services for the purpose of ensuring advocates working with survivors meet the requirements of a "Domestic Violence Counselor" pursuant to Evidence Code §1037.1(a)(1).

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the definition and impact of domestic violence
- Understand the history of domestic violence, particularly in relation to social justice movements
- Understand the dynamics of families living with domestic violence
- Understand the role of the DV Advocate and learn basic counseling skills and how to apply them in such a way as to facilitate change
Understand available resources for domestic violence survivors, including national, state, and local resources.
