Advocates Module


Description
This module is designed for victim advocates that work with families and children. It provides information to help advocates support victims and families in the processes of justice and healing.

Presenter


The facilitator of this module is Elise Gressmann-Weaver, a licensed marriage and family therapist. Ms. Gressmann-Weaver has a part-time private practice in California and also serves the County of Sonoma as a Social Service Worker IV. She has worked for the County of Sonoma for over 15 years.

Learning Objectives


By the end of this module, child and family advocates will be able to:

• Explain how trauma can produce behaviors throughout a child’s development
• Describe how trauma can impact a child’s family and support systems
• Identify at least three ways an advocate can assist in a child’s recovery from trauma
• Detail at least two considerations involved in helping families recover from trauma
• Demonstrate how to model trauma-informed care and share knowledge with members of multi-disciplinary teams

Continuing Education Units


This course meets qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (provider #128510). The cost is $20. Please complete the module for information on how to apply.
