Child Protective Services (CPS) Module


Description
This module provides a baseline of trauma-informed care for child welfare workers in California. It builds on the information from CalTICA's three core modules with specific information related to the child welfare setting. After completing the course, participants will be able to identify screening and assessment tools for youth affected by trauma and how to use results to identify services and placement of children.

Presenters


The presenters for this module are Darby Geller, a Forensic Interview Specialist at Sacramento’s child advocacy center, the Special Assault Forensic Evaluation (SAFE) Center, and Colette Katuala, a child welfare professional at Alameda County’s Child Abuse Prevention Council.

Learning Objectives


The learning objectives for this module are:

• Describe how elements of Continuum of Care Reform support youth and families affected by trauma
• List at least three ways children may exhibit trauma symptoms at different stages of development
• Identify at least two screening and assessment tools for youth affected by trauma and how to use results to identify services and placement of children
• Discuss the benefits of collaboration between those serving the child and determine first steps in identifying partners in your area
• Summarize the importance of self-care when working with families who have experienced trauma

Continuing Education Units


This course meets qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (provider #128510). The cost is $20. Please complete the module for information on how to apply.
