Initial Child Interview Training Project (ICIT)

OVERVIEW: The Initial Child Interview Training (ICIT) aims to train first responders on best protocols for gathering information in a child abuse case, thus minimizing trauma to the child and avoiding multiple interviews. The goal is to use best practice to preserve the case and avoid conflicting statements that may result from ineffective interviewing, or situational factors beyond the interviewer’s control.

The training is broken up into three modules, one for each discipline:
1. Child Welfare
2. Law Enforcement (coming soon)
3. Mandated Reporters (coming soon)

Each module contains interactive activities and knowledge checkpoints throughout. The course is self-paced and available online 24/7.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: CIR would like to thank the individuals who helped contribute to the development of the Initial Child Interview Training Course.

Advisory Board: Laura Boland, Monica Borunda, Cathy Boyle, Kristy Brodeur, Jason Forgash, Susy Flores, Rhia Grotke, Jaemi Nunn, and Miriam Wolf

Additional Contributions: Carol Carrillo, Barbara Castro, Mark Herlinger, Colette Katuala, Elaine Tumonis,  and Joycelyn Wormley

Staff: Goretti Alvarez, Crystal Cardenas, Kris Murphey, Natalie Perkins, Sonia Sandoval-Edinger, Nelle Stanwood, and Joshua Thomas
